Me 2 You – January 2021
Just before the new year after I had published the Review edition at the end of December, we had another piece of light with the second Coronavirus vaccine being approved. New light in the darkness, which was the theme for Holocaust Memorial Day.
The last year was a dark one, but we ended with light, three vaccines against covid-19, but this month has seen me place back into shielding and the majority of us under a national lockdown. This was upsetting and felt hard mentally in the first few days.
Shielding and being stuck at home once again has been harder the second time around. Last June I had hope that this experience I would not have to go through again. I reached a milestone with my COVID-19 Diary, 100,000 words, on the same day almost we sadly reached the same number of deaths.
On that theme, light in the darkness we are beginning to make progress rolling out the numerous vaccines and treatments for those who get seriously ill. Hopefully, this is the last leg of the fight before we can start getting back to this new normal.
“Consider this on the first Wednesday of the month rioters stormed the capitol, on the second Wednesday Trump was impeached for the second time, on the third Wednesday Joe Biden was inaugurated,” on the fourth Wednesday, it was Holocaust Memorial Day.
Part two of my US Election piece which one reader asked me to write was ‘post-race analysis’, of the election. Reflecting back on November, it taught me democracy isn’t immediate and it can be slow, we need to protect it no matter how long it takes.
This was written before the storming of The Capitol Building on 6th January, but in my Coronavirus Dairy it wrote the storming of the capitol reminded me of the scenes we ‘a decade ago in Tahrir Square, this is a coup that what American Government would call it.’
“I’m still shocked by the scenes I saw out of Washington over the past twenty-four hours following the armed supporters of President Trump stormed the Capitol building and forced a lockdown.”
“I never thought I’ll see this in real life in America, it was like a work of fiction. You had to pinch yourself both this being America and the fact there is a global pandemic going on.” Extracts from my Coronavirus dairy.
Donald Trump became the first president ever to be impeached twice, we await his trial.
In Behind The Headlines for my F1 site, I wanted to look ahead to the stories which will shape 2021. This is normally designed as looking at post-race analysis, published on Thursday after the previous race.
Looking ahead, next month is LGBT History Month, but I’ve decided when writing about LGBT issues to use June as my main push on this. Ideas have begun, thinking about it got a few ideas for future. The one article I want to write this year, was sparked by a comment last year, is something I need to start researching I will that will need to begin soon…
