Me 2 You – March 2019
March means the start of the Formula One season; this means that my focus will begin to shift to F1 Vault. Although my focus is about to shift, this site will continue. This month, I wrote about why disability matters, the issue is one close to my heart being disabled myself.
The role of disabled people over the last century has evolved majorly over the last 100 years and mostly in the last fifty. It was interesting when researching this, while one in five in the UK has a disability, only 46.3% of working-age disabled people are in employment compared to 76.4% of working-age non-disabled people.
I find that amazing and from personal experience I know there are many different factors. But as I said I believe that disability and the challenges we face can also bond us because of our experiences. I have humour, something which I believe is important as you need to be able to laugh at yourself when you’re not working properly. But at the same time, you don’t want to be laughed at for being stupid.
Also, the report by the Papworth Trust about the ‘purple pound’ being estimated to be worth £45bn to GDP by 2030 and a £212bn to the UK economy. I wanted to show what a powerful force we can and are, as well as showing we also have our own prejudice.
Off the site, I have been working on researching on period poverty. While I a man, we mustn’t forget this also affects us. In our party manifesto we have set out plans to tackle period poverty, and I along with other members of the party have got the council to take action.
During my research, this story I came across this story, “I wrapped a sock around my underwear just to stop the bleeding, because I didn’t want to get shouted at. And I wrapped a whole tissue roll around my underwear, just to keep my underwear dry until I got home. I once Sellotaped tissue to my underwear. I didn’t know what else to do.”
The NHS piece I wrote was a love letter a celebration of our health service. I am and always will defend a health care service which I believe is one of our greatest assets, one I would like to be there for ever. But as people we will always need to fight and protect our health service.
The Question – Why We Love To Hate Our NHS
The Formula One season has begun, though this site isn’t about F1 I think Melbourne was a race we weren’t expecting in terms of Ferrari’s struggles and of course the sober mood following the death of Charlie Whiting. But it was a race suitable for his memory.
The other piece I wrote was Beyond Ten Years of Chaos, it hard to think I grew up through one of the most turbulent times since World War Two. It’s a story I as a person developing in the last decade it was amazing that so much has changed in our world.
Beyond ten years of chaos – how our world has changed
The lessons from travel, this was an interesting piece and my biggest conclusion from writing that piece, not about the politics of the country or what you read. People want to, on the whole, be helpful, love their city or town, kind and most of all want you to have a good experience.
Lesson’s From Travel In The UK and Europe
What’s ahead this month? I don’t know as I haven’t got anything planned yet. But my focus has shifted to Formula One, with two Mercedes wins and that near miss for Charles Leclerc yesterday and the 1,000th Grand Prix in Shanghai in two weeks keep watching!
