Me 2 You – March 2021

This month marks a year since lockdown one and ever since we have been living under these restrictions, I think for me personally this third lockdown has been harder, shielding is however ending today but it will be a few more days for logistical reasons. Maybe one of the lessons we should all take from the last year that We have come a very long way in the last year.

At the time of writing on the morning of 29 March, 3,527,481 in the UK have had their second dose of the vaccine, as well as around half the population having a first dose, and we have new systems in place which should work. But we know there is a long way to go until we can get back to a normal, it’s not only when the government says we can get back to normal, it’s when the country feels back to normal.

For me, I think it will take a while to readapt physically and mentally recover and to get back to what was normal for me before this pandemic. We have all been through the trauma in the last year, but they will all be different, it’s unimaginable what doctors and nurses have seen, everyone’s experience will be different.

Watching the Oprah interview with the Duke & Duchess of Sussex I was shocked by the allegations made and the culture of the Royals. I believe key allegations are about the personal behaviour and comments of members of the Royal Family and how, through collective neglect and perhaps some malicious intent, they left Harry and Meghan no choice but to leave.

Almost twenty-five years on from the death of Diana, Princess of Wales it seems things haven’t been learned and the media are damaging the monarchy in the same way they did to Diana, and we know that ended in a tragedy. Two lines which struck me, Meghan considering suicide and Harry fearing a repeat of Diana’s death.

This month Murray Walker died at the age of nine-eight, he was the journalist’s journalist, the broadcaster we all looked up to as reporters. I never heard Walker live but watching historic Grands Prix, you could hear the passion, the Murrayism, energy this was what made him work.

A saying I often say about myself, a Murrayism, “I don’t make mistakes. I make prophecies that immediately turn out to be wrong.”

Now what’s ahead, I’m working on a very interesting piece sparked by a comment following LGBTQ+ Pride Month, exploring the different kinds of flags that represents the LGBTQ+ community. This has been quite an interesting project, though I am sure that other people have done this before, hopefully, I’ll get this done.
