Me 2 You – Easter Sunday

Easter 2021 is different; we are still not at the place we were hoping to be at, but we are still not at the normal place. I don’t call myself a Christian, but Easter for me is about rebirth, in the last year no one could have imagined how long we were going to be living like this, but we can all take hope in the story of Easter.

I’m not religious but thinking a bit about the message of Easter, a time of rebirth and those who believe will think those who have died will hopefully live on in another world, but as one would say “Earthly life has come to an end.” We have all been through a collective trauma in the last year to varying degrees, I think it will be something we will need time to understand.

We have come a long way, over thirty million have had a vaccine in the UK, but in the fight against Coronavirus, this is a drop in the ocean. Things have changed, think of where we are, we have fled Egypt now we are in the desert looking for the promised land of Jerusalem.

The vaccine is the wandering in the desert, and as we turn the tide from the arch, we have been living in over the last year, there remains challenges. When they reached Jerusalem, they needed to build a city, just like we will need to rebuild our own lives, society and readjust to the new normal.

We can do it, seventy-five years ago Europe was largely destroyed by seven years of war, but we build things like social security and the NHS as well as repairing the damage. Our NHS has proved itself over the last year, treating thousands of patients for Covid-19 oversaw the rollout of 36.2m vaccines, over half the population having the first dose.

The light in our world may have been burning a bit darker over the last year, but the volunteers and helping others as we continue to live through the pandemic has impacted us all. We need to be thankful for those who have supported us, and those who have given up their time to work with those needing support.

We don’t know the impact on us personally, but we have all at times felt lonely, scared, upset, worried but the one thing which has got me through ‘this will end one day.’ As we see our lives beginning to return to normal, whenever I use the word normal, I don’t mean the normal we had before the pandemic, we have to take our time to recover.

But most of us don’t know what it’s like to have covid, as we hear about people suffering from long-covid we need to remember that while we have had this virus and made progress with treatments and vaccines, we still know little about the virus as to its origins and why it affects people differently.

I believe as we head through the next few months we will be in a very different place, my hope is by Christmas that we are living as close to normal as possible.

Happy Easter,
